Axi MetaTrader 5: A Trader's Look at the Platform

MT5 at Axi for Indian traders: up to 1:500 leverage, deep liquidity, transparent costs. Understand the offshore status and what that means for you.

CFDs are not a savings product; the balance can fall quickly.

Axi MetaTrader 5: A Trader's Look at the Platform

The MT5 platform at Axi handles data flow and execution speed without the sluggishness you see on some other broker platforms. For a trader in India, the immediate question is about access and practicality.

Axi onboards clients to its offshore entity, AxiTrader LLC (St Vincent & the Grenadines), operating under SVG FSA registration only. This means no SEBI licence, and offshore retail forex/CFD margin trading is restricted under FEMA/RBI rules for residents.

What MT5 Gives You Here

Axi moved to MT5 in 2024. The 64-bit system handles large data sets better, and the built-in economic calendar is useful for news traders. The platform holds tick data without stuttering during fast-moving sessions and performs consistently across standard and lower-spec machines. One-click trading is set up well for quick entry and exit.

Honest Look at Costs

Costs are structured clearly with no hidden pricing. The Pro account offers raw spreads from 0.0 pips with a commission, while the Standard account has no commission but wider spreads.

Account TypeMin DepositSpreadCommission
StandardUSD 0From ~0.6 pipNone
ProUSD 0From 0.0 pip~USD 3.50/side
EliteUSD 25,000From 0.0 pipUSD 3.50/lot
The spread-plus-commission model is transparent. You know your exact cost per trade before you enter.

Your account will be in USD (also AUD/EUR/GBP); there is no INR account base currency. Keep the conversion in mind when calculating your effective costs.

What Leverage Is On Offer

Axi offers leverage up to 1:500 on the offshore SVG entity. This is a high number-on a 1:500 setting, a 0.2% adverse move can wipe out a significant portion of your margin if you size positions incorrectly. The platform allows you to adjust this.

Exchange-traded INR currency derivatives on SEBI-recognised exchanges use margin-based systems of roughly 3-5% margin (about 20-30x notional).

The India Reality Check

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and FEMA rules state that retail forex trading with offshore brokers is not permitted for residents. Only INR-based currency pairs on SEBI-recognised exchanges (NSE, BSE, MSE) are legal locally.

Axi is not regulated in India. The FCA has published a warning against an 'Axi Trading' clone, and ASIC has noted a clone-firm alert, though this is separate from the main Axi group entities which hold ASIC/FCA/DFSA/CySEC licences.

Using this platform from India sits outside the local regulatory framework. The RBI Master Direction on Electronic Trading Platforms prohibits operating a forex ETP in India without RBI authorisation.

RBI publishes an Alert List of unauthorised forex trading platforms; as of 19 November 2025, it totals 95 entities. Verify current listings at https://www.rbi.org.in.

Funding an offshore margin forex account is not a permitted purpose under RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). The LRS cap is USD 250,000 per year, but margin trading is not a valid end-use.

Funding the Account

Axi supports cards, bank wire, Skrill/Neteller, and USDT/BTC/ETH. There are no verified INR local rails like UPI; that would operate outside the legal framework for spot forex.

The minimum deposit is USD 0, and deposits and withdrawals are fee-free.

The desktop MT5 is the core trading tool. The web platform is suitable for checking positions. TradingView is excellent for charting, and the integration with Axi means you can trade directly from the charts.

Regulatory and Tax Obligations

If a dispute arises with the SVG entity, your local recourse is limited. Verify the exact entity and correct URL before depositing, and check the RBI Alert List at https://www.rbi.org.in before you commit funds.

Exchange-traded currency futures profits are treated as non-speculative business income, taxed at your income-tax slab rate. Offshore CFD profits have a different status. You must declare worldwide income and foreign assets on Schedule FA (Income Tax Department / CBDT).

TCS of 20% applies on LRS remittances above Rs 10 lakh per financial year (effective 1 April 2025). This is an advance-tax credit, not an additional cost.

Axi offers a swap-free account, which is available for Islamic/Shariah-compliant trading.

Who This Works For

Suitable for: Experienced traders who understand offshore leverage and need a professional-grade platform. If you trade CFDs on FX, indices, commodities, shares, and crypto, and you are comfortable managing tax and regulatory reporting yourself, the MT5 execution is solid.

Not suitable for: Newer traders or anyone seeking local regulatory protection. If you prefer SEBI oversight and INR settlement on NSE/BSE, the legal exchange-traded route is appropriate. For those seeking a strictly regulated international broker, verify entity status against the SEBI and RBI lists.
